SBW Meets: Branko Strupar

Signed by Jim Smith in December 1999, Branko Strupar was a European top goalscorer who arrived in England as ‘The Belgian Beckham’ due to his freekick prowess, with Rams fans hoping he’d rejuvenate a side struggling to score.

However, despite a formidable goals-per-minutes record when he was fit, Strupar’s time at Derby was ravaged by injury and he remains a ‘What if?’ player in the eyes of fans to this day.

Chris and Richard spoke to Branko, who told us candidly about the mistakes he made in rushing himself back from injury, his sadness at not playing more games, and his hopes to one day return to England.
